The Israeli Basketball Team Did It Again! Maccabi Tel Aviv – Tau Vitoria (Spain): 90 – 78
MOSCOW – Maccabi Tel Aviv won the Final Four and claimed its second Euroleague victory in a row, the fifth in the history of the basketball team. Over 6,000 Israeli fans were cheering Maccabi at the game in Moscow and after Maccabi won thousands of fans in Israel filled Rabin Square in Tel Aviv, dancing and celebrating all night.
President Moshe Katzav , who was at the stadium, was the first to congratulate Maccabi’s coach Pini Gershon. The President blessed Gershon and his team for giving Israel’s citizens a great present for Independence Day. A few minutes later Gershon received a telephone call from Prime Minister Ariel Sharon who congratulated the team and said he hopes to make the same call next year also.
