In a surprise move, Libyan leader Muamar Gadhafi recently invited a delegation of Libyan Jews from Rome to visit Tripoli. During Israel’s War of Independence in 1948, Anti-Semitic rioting drove out most of the 40,000 Libyan Jews and today no Jews are believed to be living in the country. However, Gadhafi rolled out the red carpet for the Jewish delegates calling them ‘brothers of Libya’.
