Israel has reacted with grave concern over Iran's renewed drive to acquire nuclear weapons. Last week, Iran defied the international community by resuming its enrichment of uranium required to produce an atomic bomb. At a closed door hearing of the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee, IDF intelligence commander General Aharon Zeevi Farkash reported on the implications for Israel. After the session, committee chairman Yuval Steinitz of the Likud was interviewed by Isracast.

Listen to MK Yuval Steinitz

'Iran will now be able to acquire nuclear weapons within two-four years.' That's Israel's assessment after Teheran rejected a European offer to maintain its suspension on enriching uranium for nuclear weapons production. IDF intelligence commander General Aharon Zeevi-Farkash briefed the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee at a closed door session... committee members expressed concern over the development in light of the fact that Iranian leaders have warned that it would take only one atomic bomb to wipe the Jewish state off the map. In an interview with Isracast, committee chairman Yuval Steinitz said Iran possesses the nuclear capability of producing nuclear weapons within the two-four year time and all that's missing is the enriched uranium. Steinitz was worried at what he viewed as a weak international reaction to the Iranian decision. When asked if Israel should consider military action to eliminate the Iranian nuclear threat, Steinitz replied 'It's not up to miniscule Israel to resolve this global threat'
