U.N. Ambassador Shalev Attacks Iran

Israel's new U.N. ambassador, Gabriela Shalev, said that it is absurd that Iran preaches morality to Israel

Ambassador Shalev responded to an Iranian protest against so-called "dangerous statements" from its lawmakers, saying it was absurd for a country whose president repeatedly calls for the destruction of the Jewish state to preach morality.

Minister Rafi Eitam

Speaking to the German weekly Der Spiegel, former Mossad agent and current Israeli Cabinet minister Rafi Eitan said earlier this week: 'the era of the Mossad hunting down old Nazis such as Adolf Eichmann is over, but that's not to say that such operations are completely a thing of the past. It could very well be that a leader such as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad suddenly finds himself before the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Those who spread poison and want to eradicate another people have to expect such consequences.'

As a result, Iran's U.N. representative Mohammad Khazaei issued a protest letter, saying that the statements made by Eitan were 'outrageous and vicious. The threat of force and committing crimes such as abducting a member of the United Nations is a clear violation of international rights and is contrary to the UN charter'.

Ambassador Gabriela Shalev: It is absurd that Iran preaches morality to Israel

In her first remarks to the press since assuming the position of Israel’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Gabriela Shalev issued the following statement:

It is absurd that Iran preaches morality to Israel. Iran’s president repeatedly denies the holocaust and calls – again and again – for the destruction of the state of Israel. Ahmadinejad leads a country that develops nuclear capabilities endangering the entire world. As such, Iran is under United Nations sanctions for its non-compliance with the international community. Furthermore, Iran openly and actively supports and arms terrorist organizations.

Israel calls on the United Nations to remain actively seized upon Iran’s non-compliance with the norms of the international community in order to halt Iran’s threats against Israel and the world.
