PALESTINIAN ATTACKS MAY SPELL END TO MAHMOUD ABBAS

Analyst Shalom Harari: 'I Will Not Be Surprised If Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas) Resigns Because Of Palestinian Attacks on Israel'

'Palestinian Society Is Ruled By Terrorists That Abbas Has Allowed To Grow Stronger'

'If More Israelis Are Murdered, IDF Will Likely Step Up Counter-Terror Operations, Including The Re-Conquering Of Palestinian Towns'

Mahmoud Abbas

To date this week's casualty toll - Six Israelis murdered, scores more injured as Palestinian terror attacks continue without let-up. After an Islamic Jihad suicide bomber strikes in Netanya, Hamas and other terror groups step-up the shelling from the Gaza Strip. Within ten minutes, they launch eight Qassam rockets at civilian targets inside Israel and in the Gaza Strip. Israel Air Force gun-ships are sent into action while IDF forces operate against the Islamic Jihad stronghold on the West Bank. All this, during what the Palestinian call the Tahdia cease-fire and a month before Israel is to start its evacuation of Gaza.

What happens now? IsraCast turned to Shalom Harari, an expert on the Palestinians at the International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism in Herzliya. Harari, an IDF Brig. Gen. (res.) was interviewed by David Essing.

Palestinian Terror

‘Palestinian leader Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas) may soon resign because of the deadly Palestinian terror attacks against Israel’ - that’s the assessment of Israeli expert Shalom Harari. At the same time, Harari says the Palestinian this week’s Palestinian escalation is not the start of Intifada # 3 that he foresees after Israel withdraws from the Gaza Strip and 4 West Bank settlements starting on August 17th. In spite of new consultations, there was little chance that Abbas would be able to rein in the terrorists and the Palestinian leader has no intention of cracking down on them. It was now too late because Abbas has allowed the terror organizations to gain such a strong foothold. The likelihood is that the total chaos in the Palestinian towns will continue. If more Israelis are murdered, Harari foresees the IDF escalating its counter-terror operations, including the re-taking of Palestinian towns. The expert believes that U.S. has been working behind the scenes calling on Abbas to do something about the terror attacks on Israel.
