Boycott holocaust denial convention participants

Rabbi Metzger: 'They betrayed the Jewish people, their heritage, disgraced the Shoah, desecrated its memory'

Belz's spokesman Rabbi Eichler: 'They are a small group of anarchists, of which the Iranians made a cynical use'.

Leaders of Orthodox Streams in Judaism Condemn the Group of Hassidic Jews, Belonging to Anti-Zionist 'Neturei Karta' Stream, who Participated in the Iranian Holocaust Convention. Israel's Chief Rabbi Calls for an International Boycott - A Severe and Dramatic Act According to Jewish Law.

Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger

Israel's Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger called on Jewish communities around the world to reject the group of Jewish men who participated in the Holocaust denial conference in Iran. Metzger called on world Rabbi's not to allow that group's members in Temples and community activities, and to avoid providing them community services.

"They betrayed the Jewish people and their heritage and particularly disgraced the Shoah and desecrated its memory. They tried to stain the Jewish people, who shy away from this low behavior, with their shameful behavior," Metzger said.

The dramatic act of boycott in Jewish tradition is considered as the last possible resort. Only a court with a panel of at least three rabbinical judges has the power to start a boycott. "They sabotaged Israel" says Rabbi Metzger.

Rabbi Yisrael Lau

Israel's former chief rabbi, Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau who is himself a survivor of the holocaust, expressed his shock: "It is something completely insane. If it's possible that there is any Jew, who for some reason or another can support a Holocaust denier in a generation where people with numbers tattooed on their arms are still among us - it's an insanity that has no justification and no explanation," he concluded.

MK Rabbi Yisrael Eichler

Knesset Member Rabbi Yisrael Eichler, Spokesman for the courtyard of Belz, says That the Jews who attended the conference are "no more than a small bunch of anarchists, of which the Iranians made cynical use."

"They do not represent the Jewish people," he adds, "and did not even get the approval of their own rabbi's. They are long rejected by their communities. They should not be taken seriously".

Belz's Beit Hamedresh Hagadol- Jerusalem

Belz's dynasty, who originates in the small town of Belz in eastern Poland, was nearly wiped out by the Nazis during World War II. Rabbi Aharon Rokeach, the chief Rebbe, lost his entire family and managed to finally escape to Israel with his brother Rabbi Mordechai Rokeach in 1944. A few years later, after the death of Rabbi Mordechai, Rebbe Aharon Rokeach adopted his brother's two-year old son - Yissachar Dov, now chief Belzen Rebbe since 1966. More on Belz in Wikipedia
