While Israel Sleeps!

Shabak Security Chief Yuval Diskin: 'Palestinian Authority's Diplomatic Campaign Against Israel Is Gaining Momentum & International Recognition!'

'Unilateral Declaration Of Palestinian Independence In September Will Put Israel In Much More Difficult Situation If Border Issue Has Not Been Finalized'

IsraCast Conclusion: Diskin Indicated Palestinians Are Now Winning Diplomatic War Against Israel - Israeli Government Appears To Be Losing By Default & Must Adopt Its Own Convincing Initiative

Yuval Diskin

In 1940, John F. Kennedy wrote a book on the rise of Nazi Germany entitled 'Why Europe Slept'. In 2006, Bruce Bawer described how radical Islam is destroying the West from within in his book 'While Europe Slept'. Now Yuval Diskin the chief of Israel's Shabak Security Service, has warned that the Palestinian Authority on the West Bank had launched a diplomatic war that it is winning against Israel. Analyst David Essing says Diskin pulled no punches when he briefed a closed door session of the Knesset's Foreign affairs & Defense Committee.

'The Palestinian diplomatic campaign against Israel is gaining momentum in the international arena and gaining international recognition for a Palestinian state on the temporary borders of 1967'. While in Jerusalem Shabak Security Chief Yuval Diskin was issuing this warning, in Jericho Russian Dmitry Medvedev reaffirmed Moscow's recognition of a Palestinian state on the West Bank. Diskin went on to say that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas would exploit the current freeze in peace talks to bring the issue of a Palestinian state to the U.N. General Assembly in September. Abbas and his Prime Minister Salam Fayyad had abandoned terrorism and were now bent on building a peaceful Palestinian state on the West Bank. Diskin also warned that Israel's situation would be become 'much more serious' if it did not reach an agreement on borders, border terminal and a ' border regime' with the Palestinians. Otherwise, it would be impossible to forge a separation with the West Bank Palestinians and the result would put paid to Israel's goal of a democratic, Jewish state. In addition, another possible Palestinian scenario might be that Abbas would dissolve the Palestinian Authority and hand back responsibility to Israel. Diskin, a security professional, painted a grim picture of what amounts to the Palestinians achieving an internationalizing of the Israeli- Palestinian conflict, a danger that former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon had warned about.

The current situation is the result of Prime Minister Netanyahu's decision not to extend the settlement freeze last September. The Palestinian leadership manipulated this into a freeze in negotiations and a diplomatic campaign that has paid off with many South American states recognizing Palestine, while Israel is losing in the PR arena. Diskin's assessment should serve as a wake-up call to Prime Minister Netanyahu. There is an urgent need for Israel to present a diplomatic initiative that will stem the current erosion in Israel's international standing.

Gaza... Egypt soft on arms smuggling ....

The Shabak Security Chief also took issue with Egypt's failure to block the arms smuggling from Sinai into the Gaza Strip. Diskin declared: 'The Egyptians could halt the smuggling within twenty- four to forty-eight hours, if they really wanted!' However, the Egyptian forces only acted effectively when they felt that Egypt's interests were at stake.

As a result all types of arms, including anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles were being moved through the underground tunnels to Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other terror groups in Gaza. Diskin also disclosed that an estimated five-hundred armed fighters, who believed in the violent spread of radical Islam, were operating in Gaza and had connections with regional headquarters of al Qaeda.
