Iran At The Brink

Menashe Amir: 'Iranian People Demanding Total Regime Change Not Just Disputed Election Result'

'No Possibility Of Reconciliation Inside Iran - Regime Now Threatens Lives Of Opponents Mousavi, Rafsanjani & His Family'

'Even If Ahmadinejad Again Takes Office, Seeds Have Been Sown For Future Rebellion That Will Topple Regime'

Iran's supreme dictator Ayatollah Khameini

Where is the Iranian people's uprising now headed? Iran's supreme dictator Ayatollah Khamenei has vowed to suppress the rebellion while accusing the BBC, the VOA and the Voice of Israel's Farsi broadcasts of fomenting the protests. In Israel, analyst Menashe Amir broadcasts almost daily to Iran with an estimated audience in the millions. A frequent guest on IsraCast, Menashe Amir was interviewed by David Essing.

'My message to the Iranian people is don't be afraid-the oppressive regime of Ayatollah Khamenei and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad left you no choice but to take to the streets and demand your rights!' - that's the reaction of Menashe Amir in his broadcasts to millions of Iranians.

'The seeds of the revolution have been sown and the Iranian people are no longer afraid to go to the streets and shout death to the dictatorship!'

Today, the Iranian people are not only demanding the the cancellation of the election result but are also seeking a total regime change. Even if a new election were to be called, there was no assurance that the the regime would allow a true leader of the people to take office.

Mousavi and Ahmadinejad

But what of the apparent dying down of the demonstrations? Menashe Amir is of the opinion that when the 500,000 people in Tehran began their peaceful protests, they were certain they would not be attacked by the riot police. Now after hundreds of people had been killed and wounded, they could not be be expected to go to the streets every day. But no matter what the outcome of the current chaos, Menashe Amir believes that even if Ahmadinejad does begin a second term, he will not be able to solve the deep economic problems. Therefore, it will only be a matter of time before a new uprising will topple the suppressive regime - 'The seeds of the revolution have been sown and the Iranian people are no longer afraid to go to the streets and shout death to the dictatorship!'

In general, how should the international community and in particular U.S. President Barack Obama reaction? The Iranian people were now so angry with the oppressive regime that they did not require involvement from abroad. On the contrary, the Iranian dictatorship was looking for a pretext for charging that foreign elements had instigated  the rebellion. At present, Menashe Amir could see no possibility of reconciliation between the opposing forces in Iran. On the contrary, the lives of Mousavi, Rafsanjani and his family members were now threatened by the regime.
